Raising Readers

Anytime is the right time to read to (and with) your children. Start now and you will experience a lifetime of enjoyment while spending time with books AND kids -- always a winning combination. Introduce young ones now to encourage a lasting pastime. Here is a good guidepost: www.nytimes.com/guides/books/how-to-raise-a-reader. And please don't forget that Bank Street Book Store carries New York's best selection of children's books -- for summer reading and long beyond.

Thank You for Persisting, Chelsea Clinton!

Chelsea Clinton adds yet another item to her growing list of achievements. After writing one inspiring book for children ("It's Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired, and Get Going!"), Chelsea is now the published author of "She Persisted." Hear her share stories about women through the ages who have done what they know is right: They have persevered (sometimes in the face of danger or adversity) by speaking up, making a difference, and bringing about positive change. Chelsea talks about her book at Symphony Space on Saturday, June 24 at 6:00 p.m. so young readers can learn about people like Harriet Tubman, Helen Keller, Ruby Bridges, and ten other women of courage and ideals. Joining the conversation is Annie Q ("The Leftovers") and a panel of actors and writers. Visit www.symphonyspace.org/event/9698/Family-Literature/chelsea-clinton-ishe-persisted-i for ticket information.
