Noah Webster Is Wordly Wise

Get to know a true wordsmith! Noah Webster was willing to fight for the correct use, spelling, and pronunciation of words. It is such a great story that author Tracy Maurer decided to write a book all about the man who created the first American-English language dictionary. Meet Tracy and hear her read her book "Noah Webster's Fighting Words" at Bank Street Book Store on Saturday, April 15 at 10:30 a.m. Tracy will talk about this fascinating historical figure who recognized the power of language and words -- and how to put both to good use.

Middle Ages Come Alive in Adam Gidwitz's "Inquisitor's Tale"

Time travel to the days of medieval stories and songs on Saturday, April 1 with author Adam Gidwitz and musician Benjamin Bagby. These two talents base their performance on Adam's book "The Inquisitor's Tale," a Newbery honor book set in the Middle Ages. Children ages eight years old and up will be surprised, entertained, and amused by this Symphony Space event taking place at 11:00 a.m. Participants are encouraged to come in costume (it is April Fool's Day, after all). A discussion of the book is included, as well as a staging of a scene from the book using audience members as participants.
