New York: Writing about Place

Event date:
Sunday, October 2, 2016 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Writing the city setting is a special talent these three writers share. Hear them describe their craft at Bank Street Book Store on Sunday, October 2 at 2:00 p.m. as they present their most recent books for middle-grade readers. Rebecca Behrens' "Summer of Lost and Found" is the story of a city girl expecting to spend her summer in New York, but must follow her mother on a research trip to North Carolina instead. "Counting Thyme" by Melanie Conklin takes place in San Diego until a family moves to New York City to meet the medical needs of their young son. In Sarah Darer Littman's "Charmed, I'm Sure," a Manhattan eighth-grader, who just happens to be the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, needs a date for an upcoming school dance.

These three books capture character and plot well, but are especially attuned to place, something most middle school readers relate to and understand. Enjoy a lively discussion with the authors as well as other young readers and their families. This event is free of charge and requires no pre-registration.
