In this parody of Five Little Ducks ("Five little ducks went out one day / over the hills and far away. / Mother duck said, 'Quack, quack, quack, quack,' / but only four little ducks came back.), the five little gefiltes possess one thing the ducks lacked - chutzpah. The gefiltes leave their jar (and their mama - such a nice piece of fish) to catch a play, swim in New York Bay, crash a buffet, and more, until: "One little gefilte went out one day. A big yellow taxi shlepped him away. / Mama Gefilte cried out Oy Vey! / but not a single gefilte came back that day." Or course Mama Gefilte kvetched (Oy oy oy...what tsuris. They don't write...They don't call.), and of course the gefiltes came back "'cause each was a mensch!" Hilarious text (with lots of Yiddish asides) and illustrations make this an excellent gift for kids or grown ups. A glossary defines Yiddish words just in case.
