Celebrating "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" 50 Years Later

"From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" by E. L. Konigsburg is a living legend of a book, and generations of children and adults are grateful to be among its readers throughout its 50-year history. Celebrate this Newbery Award-winning classic about a sister and brother who find themselves caught in a mysterious adventure after running away to the Metropolitan Museum. The event takes place at New York City's Symphony Space on Sunday, March 5 at 1:00 p.m. with illustrious writers (also big-time fans) Blue Balliet ("Chasing Vermeer"), Chris Grabenstein ("Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library"), Wendy Mass ("The Candymakers"), and Alexandra London ("The Wild Ones"). Authors will lead a lively discussion of the book while audience members participate in a creative writing project. See and Hear "The Green Umbrella" Read by Author Jackie Azua Kramer

Imagine a green umbrella, then imagine what else it might be, which is exactly what author Jackie Azua Kramer did when creating her book "The Green Umbrella." Elephant and his most imaginative friends think, "Perhaps it could be a boat," "Or a tent," "Or a flying machine." Young readers will wonder, "Are these suggestions possible?" After all, perhaps the green umbrella has seen far more exciting adventures than just a simple walk in the rain. Enjoy story time at Bank Street Book Store with the author on Saturday, February 25 at 10:30 a.m. and take home a signed copy of this delightful book, a wonderful way to welcome spring.

Meet Author (and Neighbor!) Patty Lakin

Patty Lakin, one of our favorite authors (a favorite neighbor, too), visits Bank Street Book Store February 18 at 10:30 a.m. for Saturday story time. Patty has written many children's books that already fill our shelves, and now there are two titles to add: "Skateboards" and "Bicycles" among them.

These new titles are part of a series of books about everyday objects beautifully designed, crafted by hand, and of great interest to readers from eight to 12 years old. Patty will also talk about "Steve Jobs: Thinking Differently," a biography she wrote that is newly available in paperback. For the youngest listeners, Patty will share one of her delightful Max and Mo stories, making this event truly fun for all ages.

Toddlers Are Crazy about Leslie Patricelli and Her Books

Author Leslie Patricelli brings her good humor -- and her good books -- to Bank Street Book Store Thursday, February 16 for morning story time. Leslie's books, including "Quiet Loud," "Baby Happy Baby Sad," "No No Yes Yes," and "Nighty-Night," are favorites among the baby and toddler crowd so join us for a fun and lively reading at 10:30 a.m. Leslie is happy to sign books after the reading and pose for pictures with kids (and kids at heart).
