Sail Away on a Book Adventure with "Billy and the Secret Ship"

Meet author Mardee Kravit and illustrator Juliet Hitchner, creators of "Billy and the Secret Ship," at Bank Street Bookstore as they present their book on Saturday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m. The story tells of a young boy, his grandfather, and their nightime routine of telling tales of ocean journeys. One morning when Billy wakes up, he finds a finished wooden ship carved by his grandfather, a token of their bond no matter where their journeys might lead them. Four teens hoping to meet their favorite YA author are so drawn in by her charms that they end up revealing secrets to her that become of basis of her next book. This is the suspenseful plot of Lygia Day Peñaflor's "All of This Is True," which debuts at Bank Street Bookstore on Saturday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m. Keep in mind that this book is intended for a YA audience so bring a teen reader and join us for an exciting book launch at 2780 Broadway.

Mothers (and Others!) Join Us at Bank Street Bookstore for a Special Story Time Reading

Start Mother's Day weekend with a stop at Bank Street Bookstore Saturday morning, May 12 to hear author Sheetal Sheth share her book "Always Anjali." This story features a young girl's exploration and celebration of self as she discovers the meaning of her special name. Sheetal will read and sign her book, which makes a great gift for mums, grandmums, and all of their wonderful families. Story time begins at 10:30 a.m. at 2780 Broadway.

Special Children's Book Week Event at Bank Street Bookstore with Author Emma Otheguy

In celebration of Children's Book Week, Bank Street Bookstore welcomes author Emma Otheguy on Saturday, May 5 for a special reading of her book "Marti's Song for Freedom." Jose Marti, a freedom fighter in Cuba working for the rights and independence of all Cubans, is an important historical figure whose life is well captured in this book for young readers. Emma pays tribute to Marti's lifelong interest in peace and freedom in her book about adhering to one's principles and beliefs. Join us at 10:30 a.m. for story time at 2780 Broadway.

ESL teacher Jamelle Hoskins Nnakwe reads from her poetry book for children at Bank Street Bookstore, 2780 Broadway, on Saturday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m. The poems included in her book "I Can Speak two Languages" can be enjoyed in English or Spanish (or both for dual language readers!). Hear Jamelle share her work for April's celebration of National Poetry Month.
