Pre-Father's-Day Fun with "Pet Dad" by Elanna Allen

Event date:
Saturday, June 16, 2018 - 10:30am to 11:30am

When a daughter simply cannot convince her father that the family needs a pet more than anything else in the whole world, she doesn't relent. Instead, she figures out how to approach the subject in a slightly different way: Her father becomes pet dad! Hear author/illustrator Elanna Allen share her story of how irresistible kids can be -- and how parents often learn to say no, no, no, then finally, yes! to a request that can be accommodated with love and humor. Join us at Bank Street Bookstore, 2780 Broadway, on Saturday, June 16 at 10:30 a.m. for a delightful story, then meet Elanna and talk to her about her art and ideas while she signs copies of her book.

Adventures on the High Seas of Life with "Billy and the Secret Ship"

Event date:
Saturday, May 19, 2018 - 10:30am to 11:30am

Billy and his grandfather have a nightime ritual that helps ease Billy into a gentle sleep. They tell tales of ocean voyages while Billy's grandfather carves wooden ships that are completed before Billy wakes up the next morning. One day the ship is not yet finished, but by then, Billy understands that it is his job to compete his own stories and adventures. This is the tale of "Billy and the Secret Ship," to be featured at Bank Street Bookstore on Saturday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m. Author Mardee Kravit and illustrator Juliet Hitchner will read their story, then instruct kids in how to fold origami ships of their own. Join us at 2780 Broadway for a morning of creativy and smooth sailing.
