"Surviving the Applewhites" Lit Talk with Regina

Event date:
Sunday, November 2, 2014 - 4:00pm

With "Surviving the Applewhites," author Stephanie S. Tolan has created a story relatable to middle-school readers, but not always examined and portrayed as well as it is here: how to find one's self through one's place.

Characters, setting, and plot combine in "Surviving the Applewhites" to introduce ideas of rebellion (and ultimately fitting in) through relationships to others and artistic expression.

Her understanding of middle-grade themes has made Regina our resident lit talk expert at Bank Street Bookstore.

Enjoy Regina's dramatic readings every Sunday at 4:00 p.m. and Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. throughout the month of November. Books are introduced on Sunday and reviewed/continued on Wednesday.

“This book is a mischievous, risky, highly amusing, disturbing, and informative romp. I say, suppress it.”
—Jules Feiffer
