"A Girl Named Disaster" Lit Talk with Regina
A survival story of a young girl's travels from Mozambique to Zimbabwe, "A Girl Named Disaster" by Nancy Farmer introduces readers to a traditional African village, including its people and places. Nhamo is fleeing an unwanted arranged marriage when she goes in search of the father she has never met.
Nhamo's journey to safety lasts an entire year and requires the kind of bravery she doesn't think she possesses. But her struggles bring her closer to a life she seeks while acknowledging a heritage she ultimately embraces.
Her understanding of middle-grade themes has made Regina our resident lit talk expert at Bank Street Bookstore.
Enjoy Regina's dramatic readings every Sunday at 4:00 p.m. and Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. throughout the month of November. Books are introduced on Sunday and reviewed/continued on Wednesday.
