Mordicai Gerstein at Fractured Fables

Mordicai Gerstein, Caldecott Medal-winning author, artist and filmmaker, comes to Bank Street Bookstore to read his latest outstanding children's books.

Mordicai will appear as a special guest author at the Fractured Fables puppet show on Sunday, September 15, to share How To Bicycle to the Moon to Plant Sunflowers: A Simple but Brilliant Plan in 24 Easy Steps, and The First Drawing.

Have you ever wondered how to start a moon garden? You'll need a bicycle, a very long garden hose, a borrowed spacesuit and a very large slingshot. In How To Bicycle to the Moon to Plant Sunflowers: A Simple but Brilliant Plan in 24 Easy Steps, kids ages 6-8 will be treated to whimsical step-by-step instructions, illustrated with comic-style panels that cover every detail of the trip from planning to homecoming.

Who drew the first picture? In Mordicai Gerstein's The First Drawing, the primeval artist is… well, you! Children ages 3-6 are invited to imagine themselves transported back in time, where if you want to amaze your caveman family with your artistic communication skills, it's a simple matter of grabbing a burnt stick. Voilá- it's a piece of cake!

In addition to reading his latest books, Mordicai has promised to sing-- perhaps in a puppet duet-- the Cream of Wheat jingle from radio's legendary Let's Pretend fairytale show!

Registration is recommended. Please call Bank Street Bookstore at 212-678-1654 or join the Mordicai Gerstein Fractured Fables Facebook event page.
